Spell damage change?

Before I open a bug thread I wanted to ask if there was an intentional change to the amount of damage spells do?  With my 41 wizard I went from landing spells for 2k damage to 400 from 2 days ago compared to today.

When does spell damage start to scale with int/wis? My druid is 35 right now and Combustion hits for 170 with wisdom of 120 or 135, (I haven't had much luck with gear yet). Do I need to have a more significant rise in wisdom before spell damage starts to scale higher?

Yes, you do. Hmmm wis gear is hard to get for druid. Lot more plate and chain stuff with it honestly.

Okay I can comment on these things. Let's discuss the basics.

Gatorscale legs are going to be stapled to your legs for a long time (same with Clerics and Shamans). You would not believe how long my Cleric wore those things on Vengful. I'm not even sure the Hate legs have wis on them. I wore those things till someone was able to kill Venril Sathir and I got the Cleric Kunark legs. That took a while.

I did Paw of Opolla (my mage has one in bank actually). Do not do this quest. It is nice, but it is a stinking time sink. Heck if you want it I'll give it to you. You do not want to camp Gynok Moltor and that darn mutant in Upper Guk.

The Testament of Vanear is easy to do. Takes a few hours, but it all depends on Dylin Starshine being up in Highpass. Give me a tell in game if you want help with this, I've done it before.

Druids can use the Clay Guardian Shield from Sol A I think. I never kill that model XXX or whatever it is, because you make gnomes hate you if you do.

I'm not sure the mob that drops the Chysoberyl Talisman is on EMU. Petrifin isn't. But the neck from Runnyeye (Blackened Alloy Medallion) has about the same stats.

Acolyte's Anklet is an easy quest. Small races though.

You can get Platinum Armband from Sol A pretty easy. Reckless Efriti drops it. Another thing that winds up being worn forever.

Okay, you do not want to camp those stupid ogres in West Karana. The items are nice, but too rare. Instead you want the Runed Circlet from Permafrost. The Preacher (think that is the mob) is a common spawn, and that is a common drop. Don't screw around with the Nightshade Wreath, Mistmoore is a deathtrap for non-melee or pet classes when you get into the castle. Batfang headband is another too rare ogre drop, don't bother with this. I don't remember Savant's Cap actually, I just remember Runed Circlet was better anyway.

Polished Mithril Mask drops from the King Transvestite/Skarlon/Rokyl crowd in Sol B. Gonna have to wait on that. I don't think my 45 Paladin would have much chance of tanking those things, and I don't do enough damage fast enough not to die when I get the three and four pulls on those things.

No idea about Mithril Tunic. That is from Lower Guk live side, and I always stayed clear of Live Side. Seems a lot more dangerous than dead side with adds and runners. Plus I am a card carrying good guy.

I don't know where the Kunzar Cloak comes from. I have killed Goblin Alchemis in Perma many times and Mammoth hide cloak never dropped. Don't bother. Gabby Mardoodle drops Molten Cloak which has just as much wisdom as Mammoth hide, but she is a gnome in Sol A, and I don't want them to hate me (or gang up on me).

Reed Belt drops from Bilge in Dagnors (and Bilge drops that 18 wis range item). I don't know if Bilge Farfathom is actually on Emu though. I know Fabled Bilge spawned when Vengful first opened, but Furn nixed the Fabled's and no one ever saw Bilge again. Supposedly he added him somehow, but no one knew what the spawn trigger was. Poor Bilge was never seen again.

In your shoes I would do the Belt of the River quest in Riverdale. It isn't bad at all as a quest if you can port.

Braided Ivy Cords are some kind of druid rite of passage. They drop from some named fairy or something in Lesser Faydark. It isn't bad if you can track. Another item like those Gatorscale legs you wear a long time.

Forget about any jewelry unless someone levels an enchanter then does tradeskills. You have no way to get enchanted bars on this server. I guess you could level an enchanter to 30 or whatever it is to just enchant bars for you, but most people don't bother.

For your weapon I would do the newby quest in Riverdale (or is it Vale?). The tainted star drops in Kithicor from some nasty nightime mobs. You could get the Sharkbone Warhammer from Kedge, but that is kind of dicey till you get in the 40's.

So here is my recommendation for a halfling druid:

Ears - *
Fingers - *
Neck - Blackened Alloy Medallion (Runnyeye - Warlord or Battlecaster guy)
Head - Runed Circlet (Permafrost)
Face - No idea
Chest - No idea. Most druids wore Brown Chitin Protector (think there is one on server vendor). But see note afterwords.
Arms - Platinum Armband (Reckless Efriti Sol A)
Back - Molten Cloak (IF you can take the heat), (also remembered there is Jaggedpine cloak quest in Surefall that is pretty easy, no wis though)
Waist - Belt of the River quest in Druid's guild
Shoulders - Prayer Cloth of Tunare, Braided Ivy Cords, Lizardscale Mantle, Prayer Shawl (Ivy Cords are better than the others anyway. LFay)
Wrists - Runed Mithril Bracer (I can help you break this with my Paladin)
Legs - Gatorscale Leggings (Ancient Croc Upper Guk)
Hands - Split Paw Hide Gloves (South Karana, lots of gnolls)
Feet - Acolyte's Anklet (Riverdale in Cleric's guild)
Primary - See note afterword
Secondary - Testament of Vanear
Range - No idea

Note: The newby item quests are in the game. Only thing is not all the items seem to drop. Your "final favor" quest won't involve anything other than killing something. No idea what stats are, but if it has wisdom that is all you want really. Also some newby quests are doable as far as drops go. The Barbs don't need bricks of this or that, they can buy theirs as the smithy. You may be able to do your newby quests, and some of the items may be better than what I have listed. Look up quests and rewards on allakhazam.

* Also Castlen Drew by the soulbinder in the area with stones to neutral cities has functional quests. I know the Blackburrow and Nektulos quests work and give you a ring and earring. Come to think of it, the Perma one gives you a ranged slot item, but my paladin uses a bow.

Now one comment about Kunark: Go to Frontier mountains and kill Blugtigin (thnk that is name). You can harmony and pull him. He always drops wis totem for ranged slot which is +25 wis here.

If you were a cleric you could get a lot more stuff with wis on it pretty easily. It is kind of hard for druids till Velious I think.

The scaling-Mod for spell damage begins at lvl 1 and takes into account your current level and base stat (in this case, WIS) and factors that in with the damage generated. Keep in mind it is a scaling mod, the smaller your input stats are (level, base stat) the smaller mod boost will be. It will be less noticeable at lower levels, and will becoming increasingly noticeable as you level and get better gear. That being said, the desired effect of the mod still works at lower levels, its just not as noticeable.

In this case, my thought is that since your WIS stat is very low, your boost is low. As you get better gear you will notice your scale-mod increasing more and more, the higher your level and base stats, the more the increase will be.

Also, the scaling-mod isn't put in the game to allow domination per say, the scaling-mod is in to offset the need to have to group with multiple clients to achieve goals in the game. The Mod maybe less noticeable at lower levels, but the mod is achieving what its intent was. I don't want ppl to dominate, if I see that the game is too easy I will adjust the mod accordingly.

I have another update for you regarding this, before I submit it as a bug. My druid is up to 39, and thanks to some donations my Wis is at 225. I do see that my heals are scaling fine. My 350 point heal is doing max 858. My nukes and dots stay flat, whether I have 225 wis or my base 105 wis. My dots creeping crud and drones of doom hit at 49 and 69 a tick. My new nuke firestrike hits at 407. I'm convinced these should be scaling higher. This hasn't stopped me from leveling, but it is probably considerably slower than a melee character.

I will expect problems with raid level targets. Frumious (49 paladin) and I took on fire giants last night as a duo and could only manage one at a time. I can provide another update once I hit 52 and try for Vox/Naggy.

You know we might be able to do Trannix, but since your root won't stick easily, and it will break quickly we have no way to split mobs getting there.

Don't think we would have any chance to a) get to Skarlon, or b) take him on.

And there are lots of fire giants that see invis (I think) on way to Naggy.

Oh yeah, my Paladin's wisdom is 131, and his str is 535. Greater Healing definitely heals for more than 350, (close to 500?). My nukes (Holy Might, Undead nukes, Divine Might proc) do not scale at all. And my duration heal Ethereal Cleansing doesn't scale either.

Also are regen spells like choro supposed to scale?

what everyone is reporting is working as I originally planned. The thought being that it lead itself to class-balancing (such as, Druid DoTs, and Nukes are scaled, however they are scaled to INT). My original thought was since DoT's and Nukes were an INT-based skill that the mod should still be based off of INT(even for WIS casters). That way INT-casters have a distinct advantage with Nukes and DoT's, while WIS casters had a distinct advantage casting heals and HoT's. Plus HYBRIDS also get the melee mod, which INT-casters do not.

Conversely, INT-caster pet healing (healing being a WIS-casting skill) was based off of the INT-casters WIS stat (this will remain unchanged for now).

but after reading your posts here it is making me rethink how HYBRID DoT's and nukes should work. I'm gonna try a rewrite of the code to base HYBRID DoT's and Nukes off their WIS and lets see how this goes...

I'm compiling new executables as I post this, so I will be ready to test the WIS-based system shortly.

That leads to problems however.

If you are mostly soloing, how much you can heal for is kind of meaningless. Not that it never comes up, it does. But for a caster the meat and potatoes is damage.

So you will have a bunch of wis casters with mostly int gear, and just enough wis gear to get through any given encounter. Well it might give cannibalism a reason to be used again.

Actually... the principle behind this seems intriguing. Wis for heals, str for melee, int for damage. Guess you could work in dex for archery and ranged. It would give people a real reason not to stack on stat on gear.

But while intriguing you have no idea how this would actually work out in the game without enough people playing. When the rubber hits the road theorycrafting doesn't always work.

On the surface though I never liked the way everyone pretty much had to go with one stat. Though practically I can say my Paladin's healing is irrelevant unless I actually happened to be grouped, and he was never going to be an offensive caster anyway. So he would just use str gear regardless.

-added WISstat-based casting mod - Shaman, Cleric, Beastlord, Ranger, Druid, and Paladin classes now have their DD's and DoT's(if applicable) damage based off of their WIS stat.
