I completed the quest on my warrior Raske. Everything worked fine with the hand in and I received Aerated Pauldrons. There's a second dialog with Falorn where he says he's willing to accept Aerated Pauldrons in trade for Pauldrons of the Blue Sky, but when you hand in Aerated Pauldrons he just gives them back.
